Acne and blemishes affect a person’s quality of life more than we like to admit. Parents hope and pray that their teens won’t be plagued by these problems, adolescents who have problem skin can’t help being stressed about it, and the scars from difficult cases can last a lifetime.

So what can be done about acne and blemishes? Blemishes may be a upsetting for a young lass on the morning of her prom when she wakes up with a zit on her otherwise perfect face. But these can be treated topically with ease and covered up before she slips on her stunning gown.

Most of the products sold over the counter in drug stores work better in clearing up blemishes than with more severe forms of acne. (Americans spend well of $100 million on over-the-counter acne treatments each year.) It’s really the heavy-duty acne that causes the heartbreak.

Acne includes pimples, blocked pores (blackheads and whiteheads) and cysts and nodules that are deeper in the skin. While it occurs mostly in teenagers, adults can be plagued by it too, even into their 40s. Interestingly, young men tend to have more severe cases of acne than do young women, but it’s the women who seek help from the dermatologist to clear things up.

Often for females the acne is hormonally related. Sometimes just taking birth control pills can help clear it up. Of course, the long term effects of taking birth control pills are really unknown, so it’s a good idea to check think carefully about the possible side effects before you use birth control to clear up acne and blemishes.

Some people think that acne and blemishes are caused by poor hygiene, but this is not the case. And often, washing more frequently just exacerbates the problem, causing your oil producing glands to work harder, producing even more oil than your skin can handle. Also, if you wash too vigorously, thinking this will help, it will do the opposite. It will irritate your skin, compounding the problem.

Some people say that acne is caused by diet. Mainstream medicine says this is hogwash for the most part. But M.D.s, dermatologists included, have minimal training in nutrition for maintaining health. They’re trained in treating disease. People who have studied alternative healing modalities say that diet can be a big factor in whether you get blemishes and acne, and it can be a big factor in clearing up the skin.

The link between diet and skin problems is something that will be further explored as time goes on, and more information is likely to be available on just how much out diet plays a role in our skin’s health.

A common problem that affects most of us as teens is acne. While 80 percent of us struggle with this affliction, many have trouble controlling it. Acne blemish control typically begins with assessing the problem at hand. Most of us don’t have a clue how to properly fight pimples and breakouts, therefore we take a clueless route, which only begets more acne. Acne blemish control is done through understanding and proper skin care.

I’m sure many people recall the hardships of their adolescent years. The insecurities, the hormones, the pizza face. When I first noticed a pimple on my face, I did what most naive teens do, and popped it. This is a mistake on several levels. First of all, popping a blemish can cause scaring. In addition, when you pinch or squeeze a zit, you only irritate it further.

A more efficient road would be to treat it with some form of acme blemish control. There are a deluge of products gracing the drugstore shelves these days. Controlling and destroying our acne doesn’t have to be so painful.

To become better educated on acne blemish control, it is prudent to seek advice from a dermatologist. They can give you proper guidance in controlling your breakouts. There are a number of prescriptions available to fight this ego crusher. Back in high school, my best friend was severely affected by acne breakouts. He was that guy people made fun of and called pizza face and blemish boy.

Not only was his face covered, but he had the classic “backne” as well. I could tell that this was a huge shot to his self confidence. A large problem was his acne blemish control method. He would literally wash his face six times a day. This is overkill, which results in severe drying. Eventually he found a remedy through a dermatology clinic.

A great source to resort to today is the Internet. You can find an abundance of information on skin types, and levels of acne. Acne blemish control no longer consists of rubbing alcohol on a zit you just popped. There are solutions and treatments galore at your very reach.

Whether you’re looking for a mild exfoliant to cure your breakouts, or a three step system to deal with more severe blemishes, you will find a remedy online. If you wish to get a more immediate treatment, the drugstore down the street will likely carry a variety of acne fighters.

As a long time sufferer of acne, I use an acne face wash everyday. If I miss a few days I usually end up with a pizza face all of a sudden, so I’ve managed to make acne face washes a crucial part of my morning and night time routine.

There are a lot of different acne face washes out there today, and I’ve experimented with just about all of the ones available over the counter, as well as some prescription versions as well. They all basically fall in two categories based on the two most common acne face wash active ingredients; those that use benzyl peroxide and those that use salicylic acid. Even the prescription acne face washes I tried used benzyl peroxide, but in a much higher concentration.

I’ve bounced back and forth between using the two different chemicals, and I find that benzyl peroxide is consistently more effective for me. It’s no surprise to me that most of the acne face washes out there, including the prescriptions, use benzyl peroxide. However, salicylic acid certainly helps as well, and I’ve found that the best technique is to use both. Not at the same time of course, but if I use a benzyl peroxide acne face wash in the morning, and then a salicylic acid one at night, I seem to get better results than if I just use one type only.

Regular use of an acne face wash and generally taking good care of my skin seems to go a long way, but now and then I still get outbreaks. I’ve come to accept that a certain amount of acne in my life is something of an inevitability. Ever since I was a teenager, I’ve been plagued by acne, and it hasn’t really let up much even well into my adult life.

Other than skin care, the one thing that seems to be the most related to my acne is stress. Using an acne face wash a couple times a day, as well as lotions and other skin care products usually keeps the acne at bay, but the moment something stressful comes up the dam breaks and I get a sudden surge of acne. I can almost measure how stressed I am by the amount of acne I get. One or two pimples is normal for an upcoming first date. Three or four is typical for a class reunion, or a job interview. My parents coming over for dinner; pizza face.

There are too many circumstances, too many big events that come up and require the significant other or the afflicted to scream, “Get the acne cream, stat!” The unexpected and of course unwanted zit appears just as our biggest moment approaches, be it a wedding, a high school graduation or prom, a first date, a job interview, or any other appointment where first impressions will keep the acne cream companies in business.

TV sit-coms play on this debacle with which so many of us identify: in one episode of “Wings,” for instance, Joe Hackett (played by the typically beautiful Timothy Daly), is getting ready for his high school reunion on the island of Nantucket. Joe’s brother, Brian (played by the equally gorgeous Steven Weber)–who classically gets his kicks pointing out flaws his brother inevitably has–points out a huge zit that has appeared suddenly on Joe’s nose.

The zit, of course, is of the kind and size that you’d want to lance and medicate ASAP, retrieving the magic acne cream that really does work…if not in an hour at least overnight. For the sake of the sit-com laugh, however, Joe obsesses over unpleasant development every five minutes, over-burdening his acne cream of choice by expecting too much too soon.

This is not to say that acne cream doesn’t work; acne cream just does not perform at an absurdly rapid rate…over a period of thirty sit-com minutes. Rather, acne cream requires a few steps or considerations in order for it to be, still, a miracle acne cream. For example, you need to consider what kind of skin you have and which acne cream or product is appropriate—and fast-acting:

IF YOU HAVE OILY SKIN…..takes best to a medicated acne product or one in gel form.
IF YOU HAVE DRY SKIN……likes the acne cream form and medicated products with benzoyl peroxide or salycic acid.
IF YOU HAVE BOTH OILY AND DRY (COMBINED TYPE)…..will heal by areas where the acne lives and so will need oily skin gels and dry skin acne creams, accordingly.
IF YOU HAVE SENSITIVE SKIN…..will need less intense concentrations of either dry, oily, or combined-type treatments.
IF YOU HAVE SKIN IN PAIN BECAUSE OF ACNE…..should get attention from a dermatologist.

In another real (well, sit-com) instance, in an episode of Roseanne, Dan Conner (played by John Goodman), the normally ruby-cheeked and adorable working-class guy, has to deal with the same problem Joe Hackett and many of us have had to deal with: he is getting ready for a reunion and finds he has a massive zit, a zit he hasn’t had since adolescence.

Acne cream, again, is a solution, but maybe not a fair one. Better to relax, as that acne is appearing because of stress, touching the face, or exaggerated oils brought on by the impact of work, sweat, and anxiety over the past or what have you.

We real-life characters have experienced these sudden, ill-timed breakouts and we maybe have children or a past record of needing warehouses of acne cream and other skin products and treatments. All we need do, instead of freaking out further and having a contest to see who gets to pop first, is investigate a bit, ask a few questions of our primary care physician or dermatologist, and do a couple of experiments of our own.

When we approach the results, we keep in mind the above acne cream checklist of suggestions. And we opt for make-up if all else fails…if the event comes before the acne cream has a chance.

Any normal teenager (and in some cases adults) all over the world are likely to suffer from a common ailment. Irrespective of their backgrounds, irrespective of their social standing and even irrespective of their race or nationality, they all have one common enemy.

And this enemy goes by the much dreaded name of acne. While acne is a normal and natural part of growing up, most youngsters detest the very sight and feel of acne. Especially at an age when external appearance takes precedence over anything else, they feel confused, horrified and in some serious cases, even disturbed by the acne.

Fortunately, the ever greedy pharmaceutical companies have not been laggardly in spotting this malady as an exceptional source of profit. Which explains the numbers and range of the acne creams that flood every supermarket and pharmacy shelf.

This is no exaggeration. Get in to the nearest pharmacy and see for yourself. I would not be surprised if you found an entire section dedicated to acne creams. In fact, more than any other course of treatment, acne creams are viewed and accepted as the most popular acne treatment. And the most common over the counter acne treatments continue to be acne creams.

But have you ever wondered why acne creams continue to be so popular? Well I have. And in a bid to find an answer, turned to human psychology. According to most people (and you can test this for yourself!) the most commonly attributed cause for acne is poor hygiene.

Although this is not true, most people continue to wash their faces day in and day out, oblivious to the damage they are causing themselves. And what aids washing faces best? Acne creams of course. Not only do these creams seem to be doing a good job or removing the acne, they also, psychologically, indicate to the user that they are helping keep the skin hygienic.

So, more and more teenagers and even a few older people continue to buy and stock up on acne creams in the mistaken belief that these acne creams are helping them.

In most cases, acne creams don’t do any harm, even though they may not actually be helpful in getting rid of the acne. But care must be taken to ensure that any acne cream used should be free of oil and sunscreens. All acne creams should also be free of comedogenic elements in order to be helpful.

And finally, all purported acne creams should at least be manufactured by a credible and dependable manufacturer in order to ensure that even if they provide no benefit, they should at least bring on no further harm!

It seems like every acne cleanser promises a miracle cure, but few of them really deliver. I have suffered from acne for years, and even though I have cut down to just one fast food meal a day, each acne cleanser I try does little or nothing for my problem.

Some times they dry out my face so much that they only make the problem worse, and then I have to eat extra greasy food just to compensate, and rehydrate my face. I swear, my arteries just can not stand too many more of these acne cleansers!

When you are shopping for an acne cleanser, you should keep a few things in mind. One of them – the most important in my opinion, is that modern science has still not developed an effective cure for acne. Trust me, I know. My face is so pocked with craters, that I occasionally get mistaken for the man in the moon.

There are some acne cleansers that can help you more than other, but they are few and far between. The upshot of all of this is that it is a bad idea to pay too much for an acne cleanser. Why pay through the nose for something that will not even work barely at all. That is a very stupid idea, as far as I am concerned. Aren’t there other things which you would rather spend your money on?

Honestly, I have tried basically every acne cleanser known to man, from the most complex and new-fangled concoctions, to the simplest or most back to basic. Of all of them, my favorite acne cleanser is just good old witch hazel. It is a natural astringent, and quite similar to rubbing alcohol in its effects, but because it is all natural, it is much more gentle on your skin.

Although my zits have never been completely cured by this acne cleanser, it has not made my skin peel the way many of the other ones have, and overall, I would say that it has made some improvements to my health and beauty. Another thing that helps is some mild soap, especially if it is specially formulated acne cleanser soap. Acne is a type of skin irritation, and so conventional soap that further irritates your face can really exacerbate your acne problems.

Trust me, all natural is better with everything that you can put on your face if you are dealing with acne.

Acne and acne care have long been part of adolescence and the teenage years. We’ve all heard the stories about some poor girl waking up to a horrible blemish on her nose the day before a big date.

But acne strikes adults too, and acne care can actually become more difficult in adulthood. Acne is caused by clogged pores, which are often the result of oily skin. Adults are more likely to have combination skin types ranging from dry or normal to oily, and this can make acne care a challenge.

Acne can also be caused by irritation to the skin from confining clothing, chafing or even shaving. Hormones are also a contributing factor, which is one of the reasons why acne is so prevalent in adolescence and why pregnant women can find themselves dealing with outbreaks and acne care.

While there are many causes of this relatively harmless but nonetheless frustrating and often painful skin condition, the guidelines for acne care are pretty much the same across the board.

Cleaning the affected area with a mild soap or cleanser is an important part of acne care. When suffering from acne, there is often a temptation to use astringent cleansers. Such products are generally not recommended for irritated skin.

An important component of acne care is to avoid irritations to the skin which might cause new outbreaks. Oily hair should be washed regularly and be kept pulled away from the face and forehead areas when dealing with facial acne. Careful shaving is also an important component of acne care. Women who are dealing with outbreaks are often tempted to hide them with makeup.

This can worsen the situation and counteract the positive effects of an acne care regimen, particularly if an oil-based makeup is used. While concealing acne with makeup can temporarily help deal with embarrassment or self-consciousness, it can hinder the healing process, so avoiding putting foundations or other makeup on the irritated area is the best bet.

People who are dealing with acne are often tempted to pick at or “pop” pimples or blackheads, either because they have a misconception that this is part of effective acne care or out of a simple desire to get rid of blemishes. This temptation should be avoided at all costs, since doing so only aggravates the situation and can also lead to scarring.

Even when these general guidelines are followed, even mild cases of acne can sometimes require a visit to the dermatologist. Professional acne care can include a variety of treatments including topical medications or pills. Acne can take several weeks to heal and ongoing acne care habits are encouraged to minimize future outbreaks.

One of the more bothersome afflictions we deal with as teens concerns our complexions. You know what I’m talking about. The classic, yet never appreciated burden known as acne. For some bizarre reason we’re the only species that’s affected by it. Why do our faces have to be so complicated anyway? Well, regardless of our hatred for the common skin condition, the ever-prominent zit certainly isn’t going anywhere soon.

And it doesn’t necessarily cease its reign when you reach the age of 20. In fact, those fun little blemishes can haunt you for a lifetime. The key is knowing how to control acne. How can you keep the pimple blow-ups from happening? Fortunately the acne-fighting companies have a few tricks up their sleeves these days. As time moves forward, we are discovering new and better ways to control acne.

Are you one of the millions affected by acne? Well, if you do grapple with a breakout or two, you’re certainly not alone. The majority of us wage a war with those nasty little bumps at some point in our lives. The cycle typically hits us when we begin puberty. This is when our hormones decide to turn against us and go buck wild. That irregularity in our bodies causes oils to pump like mad.

While this process is completely normal, it may cause some serious changes in your complexion. However, not to worry; you can control acne if you understand your skin’s condition and acquire the right arsenal. Some teens are satisfied with the results of drugstore blemish treatments. You can find a vast spectrum of acne fighters these days at your corner Walgreen’s. Anything from acne face washes, to on-the-spot creams, to exfoliating gels. Regardless of your preference, they probably carry some product that will control acne for you. These days you can even find adult acne treatments.

If the local stores lack the right products for your mug, then you may want to look elsewhere in order to control acne. The Internet carries an abundance of acne solutions. You can even learn how to control acne with home remedies. Get online and delve into the world of acne fighters. Check out websites such as Clearasil.com, and Proactive Solution. You will surely find an effective way to control acne. It’s time to get started, and demand that flawless complexion back. This is your face we’re talking about here. You only get one.

To consider the lengths we go to to find acne cures is to take us in the direction of the latest skin care efforts. I hate to have to report on what I just read about, but it all comes with the territory of researching skin care and acne cures and the like: there is a cosmetics firm in China (which sells to Europe) that is using dead skin to develop beauty products.

Maybe this is not all that remarkable, but the company is using the skin of those who died by execution. The cosmetics firm reportedly uses the skin of “condemned convicts” who have been shot in their developing of products such as lip collagen treatments and wrinkle treatments.

Some of their products have already been circulated, evidently, having been exported to England. When challenged, company heads respond that this practice is “traditional”, says a writer for LBN (Levine Breaking News). They also say that there is “nothing to ‘make such a big fuss about.’”

But as the same writer tells it, there are ethical concerns for those developing and then for those using the products. As well, the reporter notes that there is “potential risk of infection” for those indulging in the “harvested” skin care products.

Maybe the company and others like it have no qualms about ethics or health. Maybe the same have nothing to do with acne cures. Then again, maybe the offenders are ushering in the Soylent Green era, using the flesh of the dead for gain. Possibly, they are bringing on a new wave of illnesses or diseases. What concerns us should therefore be what goes into all our youth recouping, our beauty regimes, our acne cures.

Yes, when we have the frustrating external flaws of acne—whether we are teens or twenty-somethings or pregnant mothers of stressed out fathers—we are inclined toward extreme solutions. We will go to great lengths to normalize, to clear up skin and fit in with the beautiful people, the unscathed, the oil-free.

We will try the OTC (over-the-counter) acne cures, will resort to homemade acne cures, will suffer ourselves to the experimental acne cures of the innovations of science and medicine.

Hell, when I was a teenager with insufferable zits galore, I succumbed to the “latest” acne cures, using strengths of Tetracycline that could cure twenty strep viruses at once, using lemons and vinegar and scrubs with sand in them (it felt like), and using what the doctor prescribed before it was fully tested: Retin-A, a solution we mixed with straight Vodka and burned away layers of dermis with.

But I am concerned and curious as to what I would do today if someone offered me acne cures in a bottle or jar that had on its ingredients list an item too closely resembling the dead skin of a criminal’s ass. Okay, so we forego the ethics, and we let go of the “silly” fuss over health issues.

What about the cosmic passing of an evil soul or an unjustly convicted, condemned, and executed woman or man by way of her or his skin through our pores?
